Pate's Grammar School

News

Welcome from Dr Richardson, Headteacher

Here at Pate's Grammar School, we strive to ensure each child's whole school experience is enriched, inclusive and empowering. Beyond the classroom, there are myriad opportunities which bring students together to discover and explore their passions and talents, and instil in them a strong sense of belonging, and of being Proud to be Pate's.

High academic expectations and extensive support are central to our purpose; we take great pride in the exceptional achievements of our students, in and outside the classroom. Our school campus is a fantastic site, with acres of sports fields and state of the art facilities to inspire young minds. Whilst Pate’s is ranked as one of the best performing schools in the country at A Level and GCSE, we place equal importance on our culture of inclusivity, with students engaging and participating in all areas of school life. Our Outstanding Ofsted report in March 2024 highlighted our ‘exceptional array of opportunities for pupils to pursue interests and develop talents… During lunch time and after school, Pate’s buzzes with activity’.  Spanning intellectual and creative clubs and societies, sport, drama, music, the arts, CCF and outdoor education – at Pate’s, there really is something for everyone.

Since 1574, Pate’s Grammar School has been nurturing the talents and curiosity of young people from Gloucestershire and beyond. Now more than 450 years on, we still celebrate this long legacy and choose to retain many of our traditions, whilst ever-rising to meet the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow’s world. Our school shares a fascinating history and a strong sense of pride and belonging amongst all Patesians, past and present.  Students retain fond memories of their years with us and benefit from our active alumni community throughout their lives.

I am excited about the prospects for Pate’s students as we look to build on the foundations of our current success and fulfil the school’s ambitious plans for the future. In the vein of our school motto, Patebit tum quod Latuit (‘that which is hidden shall be revealed’), I invite you to come and experience Pate’s for yourselves so we can share our exceptional school with you.

I look forward to welcoming you
